Project tasks, objectives and (mid)results
LE2AP is structured in project tasks with the aim of phasing the project and to be able to conduct interim evaluations of the objectives. The project tasks with the corresponding objectives and (mid) results are described below.
Action B1: Dry milling and decomposition of reclaimed asphalt
Dry milling
Objective | The objective of this project task is to evaluate whether dry milling is an effective solution to reduce the amount of moisture in reclaimed asphalt. |
---|---|
Result | After having conducted diverse tests, the LE2AP consortium concluded that dry milling of asphalt is an ineffective solution in order to decrease the amount of moisture in reclaimed asphalt at the asphalt plant. Currently more effective alternatives are available for which no adjustments needed of the milling process. These alternatives will be used during the full-scale demonstration. |
Decomposition of reclaimed asphalt
Objective | The objective of this project task is to separate reclaimed asphalt in its original components: aggregate materials and mortar (bitumen, filler and sand). |
---|---|
Result | With the developments in the LE2AP project, BAM Infra is able to decompose asphalt in its original components. This project tasks is completed successfully and will be implemented in the supply chain of asphalt in the upcoming years. |
Action B2: Sustainable asphalt
Objective |
The objective of this project task is to integrate all the sustainable asphalt technologies into a coherent asphalt mix that can be demonstrated during the full-scale demonstration. The objective of producing sustainable asphalt can be separated into three subtopics:
|
---|---|
Result |
Results can be divided based on above mentioned sub targets:
|
Action B3: Production and laying new mix
Objective |
Objective of this project tasks is to integrate the results of project tasks B1 and B2. The integrated techniques will then be demonstrated into two fases.
|
---|---|
Result |
The semi full-scale demonstration as executed from 19 till 23 October 2015. After diverse testing, the conclusions was that the paved asphalt performed the same as regular asphalt mixed without recycling material. Furthermore, a decrease in energy usage of 30 percent was measured. At this moment the last preparations for the full-scale demonstration are being made. It is expected that this demonstration will take place in the period September/October 2016. |
Action C1: Monitoring of the impact of the project actions
Objective | The objective of this project task is to monitor project indicators considering NOx, CxHy, CO2, CO, particulate matter, energy usage, odour, recycling and resource usage. |
---|---|
Result | During the semi-full scale demonstration data regarding the project indicators were measured. Based on these midterm results, the conclusions was that the current states of the indicators was in line with expectations. After conducing and processing the data regarding the full-scale demonstration final results will be documented. |
Action C2: Socio-economic assessment (SEA)
Objective | Measuring the socio-economic impact of production of asphalt within its environment and the influence that the LE2AP project has on this. |
---|---|
Result | The final assessment will be conducted after the full-scale demonstration has been completed. |
